Lincoln Public Library District Teen Programs
Youth Advisory Council
The Lincoln Public Library's Youth Advisory Council (Y. A. C.) is a vital part of the Teen Program at the library. This group, made up of teens of all ages, meets to plan activities in the fall, spring, and summer. Along with representatives from the Youth Services Department they are responsible for planning, publishing, implementation, prizes and clean up of teen events.
Past events have included Coffee Shops, Jazz Concerts, Teen Author Night, Game Nights, Solve a Mystery Night, and a Sock Hop.
Interested teens can leave their name at the Youth Services Desk and will be contacted for meetings.
Youth Volunteer Program
The Lincoln Public Library District's Youth Volunteer Program (Y. V. P.) is for teens wanting to gain work experience before employment. Set up to mirror a "real" job experience, teens must fill out a job application, present a letter of recommendation, and complete an interview and orientation process before beginning their volunteer work. Volunteers usually work one day a week after school for an hour. Summer time volunteers work a half-day.
Teen Summer Reading Program
The Teen Summer Reading Program, planned by the Youth Advisory Council, is for any teen reader who wants to earn prizes for reading during June and July. Usually a six-week program, teens read and track minutes to earn rewards culminating in a final event scheduled for those who complete the program.
